Going Green - Switching to Glassware

We did something kind of liberating and fun this weekend. We trashed all our gladware and plastic storage pieces and bought all new glass storage ware from Crate and Barrel. I've been wanting to do this for a few months, but this weekend was the weekend!

I don't know about you, but I was really starting to hate using all the plastic. Not only did it stain and do weird things in the microwave and dishwasher, I just didn't feel like it was a clean way to store food.

So it was out with the:

And in with the glass! Again, all from Crate and Barrel.

We got 4 of these guys. At $1.95 each, they were a steal. Probably less than the cost of one Gladware container. Perfect for storing small amounts of leftovers, dips, or even seeds and nuts.

We got 2 of the larger of these guys for $8.95 each. These will be great for bringing lunch to work. Large enough to fit a chicken breast and a little bit of a side.
And we also grabbed this 3 piece set for $16.95. They fit inside each other which is helpful for storage, but are also cool sizes since they are taller than they are wide.

Two of these came home with us for $2.95 each. They will be perfect for shaking up and taking to work one serving of dip or salad dressing. Plus, they are so cute.

I just love the tiny gadgets section of Crate and Barrel. You can always find some kitchen tool you never knew about in there. Then when you see it you wonder how you ever lived without it. This time, I couldn't live without the cute little procelain condiment spoons! For $.95 each - really, it was a no-brainer. If you squint you can see them in the jelly in the picture below.

Going clean and green is still fun for me. It feels good to be getting rid of plastic storage. In addition to our purchase above, we have a gracious plenty of glass cookware in larger sizes that we received as wedding gifts almost 7 years ago. Can't say I've had any plastic ware for that long. You can't go wrong with glass!

What are you doing to go green and clean??
