Rug Me The Wrong Way

I took a little inspiration from the great blog post titles over at Young House Love today. Just wanted to give them a nod there even though they'll never see this post.

Ahem. Moving on.

Waaaay back in November or December, we sold an old rug of ours to my in-laws. We'd had it since the wee days of our marriage and it was no longer a good size fit for our needs. The rug was living in our current dining room so when we sold it, the floors were bare and cold in there.

I've been on the hunt for the perfect rug for months and months. Nothing seemed right. Last month, we finally ordered this bad boy from Crate and Barrel, the Zak rug:
Zak has been living with us for about a month now and yesterday I decided he's just not the one and arranged for C&B to come pick him up and refund my moolah. Don't get me wrong, this rug is super-fun, it's just not working in my dining room. See, here? (excuse the messy dining room - we're still moving in 2.5 years later)

I can't put my finger on the issue I have with it, but I just know I wasn't in love. And at $1,300, I want to be in LOOOOOOVE.  Three looks cute on it though, yes?

She's certainly taken her turn wallowing on it and wiping her wet face all over it. But C&B doesn't need to know that. Thankfully, they have a 90 day from receipt return policy and rugs were included so that's good news.

Back when I was looking, I kind of had a crush on another rug from Pottery Barn. In an effort to include my husband in the process I passed all potential rugs by him to get his thoughts. He ususally likes everything just fine and if he really doesn't he'll tell me. He wasn't crazy about this other rug, but sometimes, you just gotta ignore the hubs, especially when he's generally pleased by everything. I should've done that in this case.

Before I reveal the new rug to you, let me give you a little back story. Yesterday, within a few minutes, I had arranged to return the rug to C&B. Within just another few minutes, I had called Pottery Barn in Durham to find out if they had this other rug in stock in the actual store or if I needed to order it online. LUCK WOULD HAVE IT that they had ONE of the rugs in the size I needed and it happened to be the ONLY rug in an actual store in two states. Lucky me. So, I promptly paid for it over the phone to ensure it was MIIIINE and I sent my hubs to pick it up while I was at my cycling class.  SO all in one day I returned, bought, picked up, and found in my house the NEW RUG! FUN. I haven't rolled it out yet, but here is a peek at the winner, the Hayden Zig Zag Rug in Black from PB:

We actually have the runner in this rug already. It may move once we roll out the big one because they will basically connect and I don't know if it'll end up looking to busy and giving people headaches as they walk through our house (who am I kidding? no one comes to our house!). Here's the ole runner in the hall:

The room I'm standing in taking the photo above is the room where the larger version will live. So you can see the potential overload on chevron that may happen. For now, the new rug is living it up in the foyer preparing for it's new roll (haha, punny) in the dining room. I think this is going to be a beauuuutiful friendship. Look how nicely it plays with our living room rug (left of pic).

Voila!
